Through three sermons about difficult issues the author will illustrate how the sermon can have a meaning for this question. The thesis is that a sermon does make visible people who think they are invisible. The author focused on four aims when preaching sermons on invisible subjects in order to make them visible: (1) to make visible the reasons for bringing up subjects considered as invisible, (2) to understand and explain the underlying structures of the reasons to this invisibility, (3) to attain a Christian attitude towards the fear that people have to make invisible subjects visible, and change them into trust and faith, and (4) to work for a reorientation and a new way of thinking regarding the invisible questions that people for some reason may have."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133798080970752,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:25:00.477Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:11:29Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:16:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0f589cec-9c69-49b6-9374-8d7c74fc3f3a","accessControl_ssim":["12c8b9c5-f5ab-4b1b-82ad-92730ba1e740"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Om hoppfulla predikningar för vuxna = Hopeful sermons for adults"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:11:28Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:33:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["77d72f37-e5f9-4adc-a102-80477b0b8d5b"],"hasLease_ssim":["46fd438f-5c5f-4816-a815-3bc5cfa13bfd"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Bo Larsson"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Johan Svedberg"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Lutheran preaching","Hope","Law and gospel"],"language_tesim":["English"],"alternative_title_tesim":["Hopeful sermons for adults"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis deals with the issue of how to preach hope for people between the ages of 25 and 55 by using law and gospel, or trouble and grace, in the sermon. For the purposes of this paper, the use of multimedia is defined as: the use of projected images and video of popular films. The conviction of this thesis - that multimedia can have an overall positive effect on the preacher as well as the listeners of a sermon - is based on personal preaching experience, class work and reflection during a three year preaching project. The thesis explores and reflects on field experience as well as dialogue with several writers, including Richard Jensen and Thomas Troeger. The thesis builds on the work of Paul Tillich who identifies the human condition in terms of estrangement. This thesis suggests that use of multimedia can only illuminate the human condition, not provide the cure. However, due to changes in culture, multimedia may uniquely serve as a more effective tool for communicating the Gospel message, which indeed is the answer to estrangement. Included in the thesis are summary multimedia rules, which are the result of my preaching experience and study. These rules are intended to offer general findings that may be useful to other preachers."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["d722638c-a7e2-43f3-93ff-4762bde0dde7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134015694045184,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:28:28.009Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:00:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:21:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"658d52e2-8ad6-40c3-95b2-e09c5ee86573","accessControl_ssim":["1db33be8-dc48-4157-81f4-7bdf70723304"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preaching evangelism: empowering to invite by inviting to respond"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:00:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:06:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["127be505-23ae-4eab-9fe5-011f729d793f"],"hasLease_ssim":["b8e48618-8d2a-46b2-8c64-9b56431d78c7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"advisor_tesim":["Morris J Niedenthal"],"year_tesim":["2004"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John E Knutson"],"publisher_tesim":["Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago"],"subject_tesim":["Evangelistic work","Preaching"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis asks will a congregation be empowered for outreach by preaching themes of evangelism coupled with an immediate opportunity to respond.
