The curriculum requires no reading skills. Using Martin Luther's Small Catechism and basic Bible stories the residents will learn, as they are able, the love God has for them. An Affirmation of Baptism service is included. The intent of this service is to enable these people and their families to celebrate this milestone in their lives. Persons with intellectual disabilities are thirsting to learn about the love God has for them. It is developed around Jesus' eschatological announcement of the kingdom of God which calls the Church into being, determines its mission, and summons forth its discipleship. In turn, discipleship becomes the paradigm for life in the congregation.  There are four major themes: discipleship as encounter with the Good News; discipleship as celebration; discipleship as life in community; and discipleship as the radical change making Christ the center of one's life.
