Is there any correlation between what is discussed on the wider levels and what occurs on the local level?  Utilizing four years of ministry in a 'union church' setting and two existent studies of local ecumenism, the author tested ecumenical models to gauge their impact on the local level.  He concludes local ecumenical efforts must eventually involve the theological content of national and international dialogues if local congregations are to approach the kind of unity our Lord desires. The intertestamental literature is found to give evidence to a variety of understandings of both resurrection and immortality of the soul.  The New Testament texts are described as being witness to an event and as theological interpretation.  A tendency to emphasize immortality of the soul is traced from selected Church Fathers through Aquinas to Schleiermacher.  The 20th century views of Bultmann, Pannenberg and Fisher (process theology) are considered.
