The goal of this project has been to articulate the role of the liturgy as ethos in the formation of liturgical, pastoral and parochial ministry.  The first three chapters bear upon the dynamic of the imminence of the Kingdom of God in the preaching of Jesus and its appearances in the structure of the Lord's Supper. The author studied the relationship of faith and literature, as well as the relationship of the preacher to literature and Scripture. He developed a discipline called 'scanning the skies' that was used in preaching on Christ's Passion during Lent and Easter 2005. This discipline helped the preacher experience Lent/Easter as a unified time, see Lent as a time of the Spirit, and decrease frustration in preaching the Passion. It takes a case study on an urban Chinese congregation in New York state with designed teaching material (six sessions) to be tested and evaluated as the method of research.  It concludes that Martin Luther's teaching on prayer is intertwined with his justification by faith and the Theology of the Cross.  Those who pray receive God's grace. The class included psalms of David, Odes of Solomon, the Kontakia of Romanos the Melodist, the Carmina Gadelica, metrical psalms, and modern psalms being composed today in the eastern and western churches.  The post-test reflected a preference change from saying the psalms in unison to singing psalms in the metrical way to hymn tunes.  Their second choice was singing the psalms to simplified Anglican chant.  Coptic chanting has been said by some to have influenced Celtic music. Most members associate 'priest' with Roman Catholicism and 'minister' with 'anyone in God's service,' but both words have a formal, ecclesiastical connotation for most members without reference to a common priestly ministry of every Christian. Even those members most deeply involved in ministry feel little personal identification with 'priesthood.'
