The toll of this ministry on the pastor's own spiritual and psychological being is discussed in detail.  In ministering to a person at the end of their life we not only minister to but we will also be ministered to beyond our most profound expectation.  The task is both challenging and the journey uncharted. Methodology was case study, verbatim recordings, interviews and academic research. A five-part congregational-based educational series was designed to present Bible, doctrine, Luther's writings and ecumenical dialogues to stimulate a desire to live the faith. At the heart of the project were on-site focused interviews with seven staffs (one being a married couple), serving in three major Protestant denominations in varying geographic and socio-economic settings in the Northeast.  Although the data was insufficient to draw statistical conclusions, data suggested that these ministries can be effective in symbolic value, diversified gifts, and wider specializations.
