The project applies the concept of hospitality to the development of a specialized older adult ministry.  The study examines the characteristics and needs of older adults and notes the biases held by society against the elderly.  By using insights from social marketing theory, hospitality was expressed by carrying out need assessment, program design, implementation, and evaluation for an older adult ministry in a particular congregation. Preaching that uses narratives and imagery, and is delivered orally, enables the Gospel to be heard and appropriated.  The research includes interviews with elderly churchgoers to find out about their life experiences, and a portrait of ageing compiled from literature.  Sermons for a congregation of elderly are compared to sermons on the same text for a mixed age congregation.  Signs of God's transforming grace at work are noted.  Preaching that is oral and embodied, using stories and images, is really effective.
