It emerges out of the author's desire to preach sermons that stimulate emotions and intuitions as well as the listeners' intellectual capacity.  Drawing upon Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences, the author presented sermons incorporating diverse artistic media as a means of engaging various intelligences.  Feedback to these sermons was solicited through both written and verbal responses. This thesis builds a rationale for using Howard Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences to expand our teaching methodology with adults.  Used appropriately multiple intelligence theory offers a window into the minds of adults in the church, and can give form to the content and practices of Christian faith in ways that incarnate meaning for and with adult learners.
