Interventions included creation of a new shared decision making team that was representative of clinical pastoral education staff, staff chaplains, and students.  Evaluation of thesis interventions focused on assessing changes in the attitudes of staff members from early resistance to collaboration. Using the metaphor of a bridge to symbolize the flow of ideas from the culture into the church, the research reveals the influence of depth psychology on the development of the specialized ministry of pastoral counseling.  Two case studies compare the ministry of a pastoral counselor in a private practice of psychotherapy and with a congregation.
