The project uses a self-assessment instrument based on the Cross-Cultural Adaptability Inventory to measure emotional resilience, flexibility and openness, perceptual acuity, and personal autonomy among these students. Drawing upon the theological and historical Lord's Supper/Communion interpretation and New Testament doctrine of 'the priesthood of believers' and Baptist doctrine of 'local church autonomy,' the author develops a successful ongoing lay homebound communion ministry which effectively promotes intergenerational congregational understanding and interaction.  Training in pastoral care and homebound communion ministry are developed, described and evaluated. The four phases of the project involved designing a program that met the discovered needs of the hospital, enlisting volunteer clergy, training volunteer clergy, and implementing the program utilizing trained volunteer clergy.  Demographic studies of the community and patient surveys determined the design of the program. Personal enlistment of ministers was done and a training program was designed to introduce the participants to basic pastoral care in the hospital setting.
