The project compared inmates who experienced the project with other inmates who were denied access to the project, demonstrating both a change in information and attitude for those experiencing the project. The four phases of the project involved designing a program that met the discovered needs of the hospital, enlisting volunteer clergy, training volunteer clergy, and implementing the program utilizing trained volunteer clergy.  Demographic studies of the community and patient surveys determined the design of the program. Personal enlistment of ministers was done and a training program was designed to introduce the participants to basic pastoral care in the hospital setting.
