The author formulates eight principles from leading church growth authorities which are used as a basis of the analysis.  The statistics, a survey of significant people and interviews of four recent superintendents form the basis of the data. It uses a communication model called systems thinking which views an organization as an holistic unit.  Component parts are seen in relationship to each other as well as to the organization as a whole.  The organization must be seen in its environmental context.  A systems model developed by Stafford Beer is selected. Beer's model identifies the functions of a system and demonstrates their relationship.  It portrays the channels which enable the expression of variety.  This paper identifies the functions of a local church as revealed in the Gospels and in the Book of Acts.  These functions are applied to the system model which is adapted to a local church organization.
