During the past decade, at SAUMC, the need to reach the next generation has reached a critical point. The community around the church holds multiple mosaic identities which identifies which were utilized in developing the strategy to reach this narrowed demographic. Current literature on the topic and strategic planning assist in identifying key methodologies St. Andrew's can implement. The millennial generation desires a church that reflects ancient aspects while blending contemporary distinctiveness. This change in ministry thinking, style, and context provides the church with the perfect opportunity to evolve. This project identifies strategies utilized by churches that are successfully reaching the largest and most unchurched population in the United States. Recognizing the inevitability of conflict, it is essential for Christians to navigate through conflict in a biblical manner. This project researched the field of conflict management and identified biblical passages that enabled the project director to develop a curriculum for the purpose of training the deacons. The deacons are eleven men, chosen by the congregation for the purpose of protecting unity and ministering the needs of the church body. The deacons participated in seven hours of training that led them to develop a biblical perspective and approach to managing conflict. This training included a variety of teaching techniques and evaluations. To ensure improvement in expository preaching skills the project director submitted both poutlines and videos of sermon deliveries to experts in the fields of expository preaching and multigenerational worship for analysis. Seven one hour and fifteen-minute sessions were designed, in which ten leaders took part. The training sessions addressed the following issues: understanding the emotional system of the church, positioning leaders to address conflict, analysis of the conflict through the five levels of conflict, analysis of the conflict through roles and communication study, communication skills, dealing with the problematic, and specific skills training for resolution of conflict.
