The curriculum for the weekend highlighted the practice of the devotional leaders of the church who are pioneers in spiritual formation. The project director used multiple methods to train these teenagers in the disciplines. During the eight sessions of the equipping retreat, the teenagers experienced spiritual disciplines. During the third phase, associational leaders adopted the new strategy to empower Greater Orlando Baptist Association churches to train believers who think and live as missionaries. Research from an annotated bibliography provided the resources for development of lesson plans in order to equip the selected group. The equipping included sessions that both explored and defined the concept of relationship-driven ministry. Deacons selected were asked to participate in three sessions equaling seven hours. These sessions included study of both Old and New Testament passages of Scripture supporting the concept of relationship-driven ministry. The director researched the field of application in preaching through reviewing the Bible, searching publications about application in preaching, consulting experts, studying sermon examples, and conducting interviews with experienced preachers. The director reflected on the use of application in preaching to find general functions and principles of application and then developed a series of sermons that demonstrated the use of applications in preaching. The participants were evaluated before, during and after the study.
