The research was done via questionnaires and a personal visit to each church by the author.  It revealed that there were growing Baptist churches in all four states.  Fifteen characteristics were readily acknowledged as significant in these churches and their growth. Preaching is defined as the proclamation of the Word of God through lecturing. Within recent years a variety of teaching methods have been incorporated into preaching delivery but the use of these methods has seldom been questioned or even tested.
