Will they be able to live more consistently as Christian disciples in the world? This project seeks to answer these questions a pretest/posttest questionnaire administered to 68 laypersons.  The experimental group of 34 persons received six hours of theological instruction. The control group of 34 persons received no instruction. The methodology included a 60-minute videotape documentary dealing with historical, psychological, medical, ethical, and biblical material broken into seven study periods.  Booklets for leader and students give additional information.  Discussion starters and open-ended questions are provided to facilitate dialogue.  Two groups were studied.  Measurements before and after the course indicate significant positive shifts in attitudes, perceptions, and value systems by all participants. Thus, biography and autobiography may effectively be used to encourage theological reflection by adults in the church. The project includes a survey of the literature of narrative theology (with particular attention to Stroup, Hauerwas and McClendon) and a discussion of hermeneutical problems. The author proposes a four-step method for biographical theology, and applies it to group studies of the life stories of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and C S Lewis. Historically, classroom teaching has concentrated on an outline of essential Christian doctrines while preaching has relied primarily on the telling of the Good News of Jesus.  The early church did the exact opposite among those whom they taught and preached.
