The study then defines and evaluates strategic principles and practices of renewal for the contemporary church.  The study analyzes various models of renewal.  A tour of Canada provided input and insight from pastors and theologians for the thesis that the contemporary renewal movement is an expression of the church's return to its New Testament roots. The author sought to use the theological criteria of experience, reason, scripture and tradition by studying Wingeier's 'Working Out Your Own Beliefs'.  He taught how Douglas Wingeier, John Macquarrie and Donald Bloesch applied these same criteria to their theological studies. The different criteria that each theologian stressed was discussed with an adult class as they learned to accept or reject each criteria and to follow their own theological guideline in faith translation. Thus, biography and autobiography may effectively be used to encourage theological reflection by adults in the church. The project includes a survey of the literature of narrative theology (with particular attention to Stroup, Hauerwas and McClendon) and a discussion of hermeneutical problems. The author proposes a four-step method for biographical theology, and applies it to group studies of the life stories of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and C S Lewis. After reading many books and materials in the fields of evangelism and pastoral care, the author established criteria that would give the program integrity, both theologically and practically.  He established the need through personal evaluation and a survey, and then developed the training program and relayed the dynamics of the training sessions. The pastor achieved this by appointing four committees.  The history committee looked into how the church grew by caring in the past.  The theology committee delved into the biblical and theological bases for caring.  The community committee studied the community and its need for caring. The planning committee then took the work of the other three committees and developed three to five years of caring plans.
