Six case studies were done. The research showed that the interventions reduced or alleviated pain and deeply relaxed the patient in 100% of the patients studied. They assisted emotionally by reducing or alleviating fear, hurts, anxiety, and sadness. They aided the patients spiritually by enhancing or renewing their relationship with God and by helping them to deal with their disease. The author, a chaplain serving in the Air Force, met the pastoral care needs of airmen at Osan Air Base in Korea through a pastoral care program of group and individual counseling. Assessing group attendance and pastoral care needs the author found that a combination of individual counseling and small group attendance was most effective for spiritual health.
