The Church is of God and will never disappear, and it is because we believe this that we have conducted this project in the hope of bringing about change among those of us called Christian beginning with an annual conference of the United Methodist Church.  The practicum was conducted over a 12-week period of time.  Two groups, one made up of female clergy and one made up of male clergy, were recruited from an annual conference and asked to meet as consciousness-raising groups using the book Women's Growth in Connection.  The emphasis of the groups was to focus on justice issues between male/female clergy using their own experience and calling forth their hopes for and commitment to change. An examination of the curriculum known as 'Disciple: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study' suggested that this Bible study would address many church renewal concerns. The practicum was designed as an evaluation of Disciple which would be accomplished through its use in the candidate's parish and a series of twenty-seven interviews. The first key finding is that Disciple is a Bible study which should be used in every local church. Dialogue is appropriate because the basic theme of the Bible is God's passion for reconciliation and dialogue is a means of reconciliation.  Dialogue is viable because, in terms of James Fowler's stages of faith, even people who have not developed beyond the second stage are capable of responding to dialogue in a limited way. The purpose of this project is to illustrate one method of training congregations to intentionally plan, design and implement worship services. The project is limited to funding the local church, while recognizing that stewardship includes the totality of life in response to God as Creator and Redeemer. The study includes an overview of the history of church funding, an analysis of current funding programs, and a comparative inquiry of local churches, ministers and funding practices in the North Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church.
