It examines the use of 'story' in preaching; examines the homiletics of George Buttrick, Fred Craddock and Eugene Lowry as a basis for comparison with biblical character preaching; shows the details required for using this form of proclamation; and demonstrates the intense Scriptural reflection which character portrayal requires.  The practicum was conducted over a three-month period using members of the Arapaho United Methodist congregation to provide evaluation on the presentation of two characters: Jacob and Joseph of Nazareth. The theory was that the problem could be influenced with improved teaching, more intentional follow-up of absentees, and starting new classes regularly. The theory was tested in a variety of churches, followed by a three-year evaluation.  Results indicated that the theory is correct with some additional factors. It was concluded that God's majesty is revealed in religion and science.  Any offered position must reflect creation's implicit wholeness. Through two non-threatening questionnaires Eastridge Baptist Church evaluated its Sunday morning worship service.  The study benefited the congregation by revealing needed adjustments to details of its worship practice and by serving as a vehicle for the congregation and its new pastor to become better and more rapidly acquainted.
