Through the implementation of classes, a prayer team and opportunities for lay involvement with prayer ministry the desired effect was a strengthening of the congregation's relationship to God and others and the laity would become more confident in their ability to serve along with the clergy. The Lord's Prayer was used as a model of relationship, type order and content to teach prayer.  A series of eight sermons on the Lord's Prayer was developed and delivered over a period of Sundays in January 1984. Weekly feedback sessions were used to determine the hearers' understanding of the Lord's Prayer and the resulting effect on their prayer life. Its purpose is to explore ways in which Christians may learn to pray with theological understanding. We maintain that we learn to pray as we work through our conflicts with God and the world.  Since we develop spirtually through combat with God, the more we contend, the more we learn of the covenant of grace.  This covenant in Christ provides the context for our spiritual growth since we cannot mature spirtually outside of God's grace. The result of this project was a workshop that taught the Lord's Prayer as the scriptural basis, the prayer of the heart as the meditative process model, and journaling as an evaluative method.  The project was carried out in a prayer workshop in the First Baptist Church of Okeene, Oklahoma in February, 1984.  The workshop setting allowed a free interchange of ideas and dealt with the needs of the individual participants.
