The dissertation section of the study examines the Lukan perspective of Jesus' mission and ministry, the development of the Baptist movement with particular regard to the contribution by Spurgeon, Carey and Graham and the process of secularization with particular regard to the myth of the Australian secular society.  The project section examines in detail the growth and decline of twenty Baptist churches in the urban environment of Australia's largest industrial city.  The study revealed that personal religious belief in Australia remains strong but attachment to institutional religious bodies is in decline. Examination of the twenty Newcastle Baptist churches revealed that the majority of growth was borrowed from other churches with little evidence of growth as a result of mission activity. Southern Baptist churches have a special vulnerability in conflict situations, in that the polity by which they operate precludes outside ecclesiastical intervention. The purpose of this project is to suggest that churches place in their constitutions and bylaws an agreed-upon-in-advance procedure for conflict management and resolution.  By processing the potential for conflict and developing procedures to address it, valuable time and precious fellowship can be conserved. Six monologue/sermons were written and presented for worship and to other church groups.  The goal was to present Peck historically and spiritually within the context of marginal personality. Each presentation was video-taped and critiqued by lay and clergy groups.  This genre revealed dramatic limitations which led to the writing of a seventh, much longer drama which added a narrator and bit parts. Many current programs and activities are based upon historical traditions.  The author saw a need to evaluate present procedures in the light of history feeling that such a study would reveal any effective or fragmented practices and policies, strengthen the present ministry, and contribute to the design of future strategy.  After reading extensively in the areas of biblical and theological foundations for missions, missiology, historiography and Spanish history, the author thoroughly investigated the records, minutes, documents and archives of the Baptist mission to Spain and interviewed missionaries and Spaniards having a personal knowledge of the history of the mission.  Letters and documents were obtained from other religious agencies.
