The thesis is that an enlightened understanding of conflict and the development of certain communicative skills can significantly affect how the parishioner perceives conflict and thus how he or she will behave in conflictive situations thereby reducing the strained interpersonal relationships and alienation that often follows in the wake of the conflict.  A conflict skills curriculum was developed for the Ardmore Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  Participants were volunteers from the congregation who met weekly for a total of 8 sessions. They were tested prior to the seminar and again at the end. A control group was used for the purpose of comparison. The question addressed was, Will a seminar on conflict change the participants' attitude and feelings about conflict. Data were gathered through a written questionnaire.  A graphic comparison method and other complementary instruments were adopted in terms of a discrepancy model.  Among ten subject-matter areas, the results show the area of biblical knowledge as most in need of continuing education.  This is followed by evangelism-church growth and biblical-historical-systematic theology. Seventh-day Adventist heritage and pastoral care place adequately in the middle range.  Church administration placed higher than church history-comparative religion and biblical languages. Pastors with graduate education gave evidence of greater doctrinal-biblical knowledge and a small advantage in ministerial skills.  Motivations and deterrents in regard to continuing education are listed. Therefore, the project sought listener response to deductive and inductive preaching in the Pioneer Memorial Church in order to ascertain listener preference for one or the other of these two sermonic methods.  Eight sermons were preached that intentionally alternated between the deductive and inductive methods.  A group of randomly selected listeners reacted to each sermon through a standard evaluative questionnaire.  Based upon their responses, listener preference for deductive and inductive preaching was ascertained.  It was discovered that in numerous instances the listeners demonstrated a wide range of responses and preferences that prevents any categorical advocacy of one method over the other.
