Chapter 1 defines the purpose and goals of the project. background information, research methodology and basic definitions for the project are given. Chapter 2 gives the biblical-historical-theological foundation for the project. Biblical uses of koinonia and story are investigated, followed by passages which show biblical use of story to increase koinonia. Chapter 3 gives the social theory behind the project, examining the nature of story and studies of group cohesion. Chapter 4 describes the implementation of the project, describes the research and the worship services of the project. It was hoped that the process would enhance personal growth for the participants.  The author shared stories for twelve weeks on Wednesday evenings with the congregation.  Members of the congregation would then divide into small groups and reflect upon the story.  Three instruments were used as pretests and posttests: the Myers-Briggs type indicator, the Tennessee Self-Concept, and the Bem Sex-Role Indicator. Chapter 2 looks at biblical storytelling.  In chapter 3 the focus is upon the ways that storytelling can help individuals to change. The fourth chapter assesses the testing instruments.  The last chapter is an evaluation of the project and offers suggestions for future ministry. There was evidence of change and community building. The project adapted Jackson Carroll and James Hopewell's process for congregational study using both research instruments and guided interviews with small groups to develop a church's identity story.  A theoretical base for using story in local church ministry was presented. A narrative of the small group's interaction and reaction to the production of a story of identity was provided. This project uses two types of research: literary research, which is done in the areas of preaching, communication, narrative theology, and biblical studies; and social research which includes a survey of the congregation and interviews conducted with a small group. Chapter 2 briefly introduced two of Jesus' stories in Luke as a biblical storytelling model and surveyed the theological aspects of biblical storytelling. Chapter 3 explained that the human brain has a physiological structure and cognitive characteristics that enable the listener to maintain the essentials of the story for longer periods of time.  Story's role in human history, in both sociological and psychological aspects, was discussed here as well. Training of the Sunday School teachers, grounded on these findings, was described in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 shows how teachers themselves were instructed about the storytelling form as the biblical teaching method of faith.
