The time parameter was May 6, 2001 until October 7, 2001.  Biblical research focused on the prayers of Abraham (Gen 18:22-33), Moses (Exod 32:11-14), Paul (Phil 1:3-8), and Jesus (John 17:1-26).  Contemporary studies were explored, which addressed the scientific experimentation concerning the relationship of prayer and therapeutic medical treatment.  Research methods included survey instruments at the beginning and end of the project along with two focus groups for evaluation. He traced the historical development of member care in mission organizations, described its current context, and presented the need for spiritual direction.  The research included a history of Christian spiritual direction and presented the characteristics of some current models.  The author developed a theology and methodology of both spiritual direction and member care.
