The project was designed to contribute to the effectiveness of the ministry of the participating pastors by creating a caring, supportive community of peers.  Chapters two and three examined the biblical and historical foundations.  The biblical models of covenant and community were the primary foci.  Sketches of several leading theologians were presented in order to understand how support systems in spiritual growth have functioned effectively at significant times in the history of the Christian church.  Chapter four described the preparation for a implementation of the program.  Data was gatherd through questionnaires and interviews. The group design and various options for continuing support in spiritual growth were presented. A questionnaire administered in 1987 exposed specific weaknesses.  The author developed a syllabus of instruction and conducted seminars in seven cities, concentrating particularly on basic principles of teaching and learning, on educational methods and media, and on the integration of the total teaching program of a church. The project grew out of questioning the policy of political neutrality as required by the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention on behalf of its missionaries.  Case studies, literary research, and interviews conclude that political neutrality is impossible, unbiblical, and undesirable.  A symbolic model for social change was developed.  The Foreign Mission Board, as a result of this project, revised its policy on political neutrality. The writer conducted an eight-week worshop for fourteen students.  The validity of the workshop was studied through the use of pretests and posttests for the workshop group and a control group.  The writer completed a statistical analysis of the workshop using t-tests. The project utilized a training seminar and an evalution of the program based upon how it effected the participants.  A pretest and posttest questionnaire sought to measure changes in attitudes and motivation toward relational evangelism. A final questionnaire was administered to evaluate the seminar.  Four weeks later participants were interviewed to discover influences of the training.  Seven sessions dealt with discovering, developing, and renewing relationships. Two final sessions focused on methods of Gospel sharing. The participants displayed improved attitudes toward personal evangelism and a marked increase in their level of involvement. This is achieved by leading each participant toward an understanding of certain biblical texts and by encouraging his or her participation in various learning activities. Two methods of research are employed in the project. Literary research is done in the fields of history, theology, and biblical studies.  Social research instruments measure effects on both a control and a treatment group. Chapter 5 provided an evaluation of the project. The premise was that daily practice of the spiritual exercises promote spiritual growth which eventuates in a greater satisfaction in one's spiritual life.  A pretest/posttest method was used to measure both the regularity of practice and participant attitude toward the spiritual exercises.
