Matthew"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The dissertation seeks to answer two questions: 1) Was doctrine or the mission of making disciples the driving force behind the Great Commission Resurgence movement in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) that began in 2007 and culminated in the passing of the final report from the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force in 2010? (2) Was the driving force behind the Great Commission resurgence biblical and effective in reversing the stagnation and decline in the baptismal number of the SBC? In researching this, no major works were found that focused on this topic of doctrine versus mission as the motivating factor of the Great Commission Resurgence. In forming a research strategy, four areas were examined. First was the need to exegete the Great Commission from Matthew 28:16-20. The Greek text was studied for linguistic syntax and structure. Additionally, Bible dictionaries and commentaries were referenced. Second, it was necessary to look at recent history dealing with ecumenical movements and their effects. Third, the Great Commission Resurgence itself was investigated beginning with Daniel Akins's 'Answering the Call to a Great Commission Resurgence' at the 2007 Building Bridges Conference and culminating with the report form the taskforce at the SBC in 2010. The most disturbing facts of the termination data are the reasons cited. Since 1983 the most-reported reasons for termination are not moral failure (lying, stealing, sexual immorality), false teaching, or any other violation of biblical qualifications, but rather nonspecific reasons such as control issues, pastor's leadership style too strong/weak, or decline in membership. The need for a biblical pre-marital and marriage counseling manual that will equip Protestant ministers to assist people in building their marriages on the foundation of God's word was discovered through formal and informal discussions with indigenous ministers. The manual emphasizes the truth that marriage is God's creation and not solely man's institution, as propogated by the Soviet regime. Therefore the Bible is the source for identifying the purpose as well as understanding the principles for marriage. Chapters include the following teachings: the authority and sufficiency of scripture for biblical counseling, building a biblical foundation for marriage, pre-marital counseling, divorce and remarriage, and counseling for major marriage problems. The thesis is that in contexts where Directors of Missions relate to multiple Baptist Associations this unique model offers increased opportunities and possibilities of enhanced ministry effectiveness and relevancy while maintaining the historic/geographic associational affinities. Chapter one includes a statement of the problem in the ministry context as a rationale for assessment and response. Chapter two seeks to demonstrate a workable strategic planning 'map' employed in the author's context with possible applications for associations considering consolidation. The map demonstrates how the theological and philosophical basis for the project was developed and implemented in the author's context. Chapter three provides preliminary analysis of the project application and leadership effectiveness with extrapolation concerning the future of the Heart of Texas Baptist Network based on the preliminary responses of constituents. The primary conviction of the author is that Baptist Associationalism stands at a time-critical juncture in light of quantum change impacting the world. This quantum change demands response from associational leaders. The project leader will select members from within the staff of the International Sports Federation to form a research development team.  The team will work together with the project leader to develop a training manual for sports mission team leaders.  This project will include a seminar for potential sports mission team leaders, who will learn tactics and principles for recruiting volunteers to fill sports mission teams and raise the necessary funds. Its purpose is to be of benefit to the Project Leader, the participating pastors and the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  As a beginning point the project leader will select a group of culturally diverse pastors whose churches cooperate with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  These pastors will attend training sessions designed to assist them in their understanding of vision in general; however, the focus is the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  Other training sessions will involve the study of church and community demographics and an examination of the culture of the pastor and his congregation. Finally, the pastors will be encouraged to discover how the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas might be relevant in their culture and environment.  The vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is built around the concept of churches being the presence of Christ in the world. Member candidates will affirm or reaffirm faith in Christ, learn Southfield's distinctives, and begin relating meaningfully with a Southfield home cell called a LifeGroup. The distinctives of this project lie in its philosophy of membership and its emphasis on relating over educating.
