However, very few church workers have opportunity to receive formal teaching about the truth of the gospel. As a result, the foundation of the faith of the believers becomes terribly weak and unstable. The goal of this project is to teach church workers in China the basic truth of the gospel in a Chinese context for personal evangelism. It will seek to contextualize the truth of the gospel with the unique characteristics of ancient Chinese written characters, which amazingly contain the stories of the gospel. Church workers will learn the knowledge and skills of utilizing a figurative and factual way to share the gospel with Chinese-contextualized messages. The prospective new church will be 'apostolic' in that it will be a church focusing on the unchurched.  The new church's form stems from Carl George's community group model that he labels 'meta-church.'  The first phase of the project develops the community group leader training curriculum.  The second phase centers on building the leadership skills of the community group leaders.  The third phase organizes the pilot group.  The fourth phase provides the community group leaders with field experience and employs the meta-church structure by having the pilot group meet eight times over a twelve week period. A high rate of pastoral turnover and geographic isolation necessitate the training of lay preachers to meet this need.  Lay preachers can be effective if they understand the communication patterns of the traditional/oral listeners who occupy these pews.  This project equipped a group of laymen from a large urban church to preach in the small rural churches of Oklahoma.  The laymen were trained to understand and appreciate biblical narrative.  they learned basic storytelling skills.  They worked to construct and deliver sermons that respected the traditional/oral communication keys of stories, relationships, and proverbial sayings. A clear marketing pathway incorporating marketing principles was created.  Several groups were involved: DBA ministerial staff, DVA WMU Leadership Team, and a Mission Offering Task Force.  Each group had responsibilities in a four-phase plan: phase 1--establishing plan priorities; phase 2--enlisting and training groups and developing promotional materials/resources; phase 3--implementing and communicating the plan; and phase 4--reporting, evaluating, and recognition. Eight congregation members were enlisted to participate in the Community Cultivation training. The project included four weeks of discipleship and training related to biblical principles on prayer, servanthood, and evangelism.  This training period was followed by six weeks of Community Cultivation activity in the neighborhood. Its purpose is to be of benefit to the Project Leader, the participating pastors and the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  As a beginning point the project leader will select a group of culturally diverse pastors whose churches cooperate with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  These pastors will attend training sessions designed to assist them in their understanding of vision in general; however, the focus is the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  Other training sessions will involve the study of church and community demographics and an examination of the culture of the pastor and his congregation. Finally, the pastors will be encouraged to discover how the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas might be relevant in their culture and environment.  The vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is built around the concept of churches being the presence of Christ in the world. This pilot program seminar consisted of meeting surveyed needs of ministers through reading research, creating personal philosophies, and evaluation their personal programs. The results indicated that ministers wanted to be equipped to do ministry; therefore, validating this certification program. The certification program seminars will include pre-seminar assignments, as well as a post-seminar evaluation. A small group was offered an opportunity to participate in 1) concentrated training for basic youth ministry, 2) observation in churches with comprehensive, healthy youth ministries and 3) personal mentoring time dealing with ministry issues.  Predominatly Hispanic conference leaders from around the state led the training sessions, thus providing teaching as well as contacts and role models for them. Observations increased application ideas.  Mentoring allowed personal growth based upon their personal needs.
