The project addresses one obstacle to effective church ministry as it relates to the small membership church: the small church mentality.  The small church mentality shows itself in four characteristics: fear of outsiders; resistance to change; lack of cohesive, coherent organization; and lack of unified forward movement. To move toward effective ministry requires the small church to diagnose the presence and effects of the small church mentality and its mindset. The author sought to equip the task force to identify, select, adapt, and recommend certain church growth principles which, if implemented, would help a plateaued church experience renewed growth.  Over a period of seven weeks, involving ten sessions, the group was exposed to selected church growth principles.  The group then adapted those principles, relating them to their specific church, and recommended eight ways the principles could be implemented.  The church then adopted the recommendations, implementation was begun, and growth ensued. The need is for believers not to look at themselves as solitary, isolated Christians, but as part of the Body of Christ. These were designed to help new believers to mature in their understanding of the biblical admonition of responsible church membership. The author's method involved taking a group of twenty people through a twelve-week training process, equipping them to become the nucleus for the prayer ministry. Research included biblical and historical emphases on intercessory prayer as well as material from current ongoing prayer ministries.  At the conclusion of the training period all twenty participants became involved in the intercessory prayer ministry as well as 139 others. Six sermons focused the congregation on the Christian's response to various human needs.  The project resulted in personal growth and self-awareness for those equipped as crisis caregivers.  The development of the crisis care team multiplied the ministry of the professional clergy.
