Teaching/learning theories and methodologies were researched and a theology of motivation was developed. The author conducted an extensive personal study of the subject utilizing both technical and devotional sources.  During the ten-week project duration, the author preached sermons and led a task force of ten persons in a weekly, intensive study of prayer.  The disciplined practice of prayer increased in the church. A church with less than 10 per cent growth over five years becomes ineffective. However, a church that strives for both qualitative and quantitative growth will continue making useful disciples. This project's methodology was both practical and theological as the church evaluated where it was and where it needed to be.  Physical and spiritual growth occurred as the people examined biblically why they should grow.  This examination included Bible studies on the church's nature and mission as well as preaching on growth principles.
