It describes an exercise in thematic analysis through a collaborative approach using free association and life review. The project involves the recruitment, training and deployment of a small group of senior lay pastoral and sacramental assistants in a suburban Anglican parish.  The author uses phenomenological research methodology, and as participant-observer describes changes in the participants' self-assessed spiritual status, using as data before and after interviews. The aim was to generate new knowledge about these needs by developing a support group.
