Then an historical analysis of Irenaeus's christology in his anti-Gnostic work shows the importance of affirming the deity of the historical Jesus when addressing Gnostic trends. Biblical references for giving are considered in context and for application in a postmodern world. Stewardship's development is traced to its formation at the height of 'modern' confidence in humanity's ability to master money and economic systems. This confidence is contrasted with Jacques Ellul's analysis of money's ability to control human lives and divert them from God's purposes. A stewardship campaign that is based on postmodern principles is descibed, and its effectiveness evaluated. This study concludes with a biblical and postmodern view of stewardship for transfoming both giving and giver."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130312329134080,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:36.205Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:44:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:24:16Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"265f4ebc-d3b7-4a36-a4ff-c4a61571c31f","accessControl_ssim":["9719d67c-ca84-4388-9376-699bfb73eff5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Corrective discipline as a part of continuing discipleship: using church discipline to restore significance to membership in the United Church of Christ"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:44:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:15:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7570fa0d-8053-4a6a-ba38-5ca4c23a5eb2"],"hasLease_ssim":["e911e05f-67ed-4830-b63f-1a05f2dab3d4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Pamela Baker Powell"],"year_tesim":["2006"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joel Carey Kletzing"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry"],"subject_tesim":["Discipline","Church discipline","United Church of Christ","Church membership","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study is concerned to determine whether holding church members accountable to vows of commitment through community discipline can restore meaning to membership in unhealthy congregations.
