This project aimed, especially, to prepare a team in the congregation for leadership of a new small group ministry. The leadership training was formatted as a small group experience so that participants with no prior involvement in a small group both learned leadership skills and grew in appreciation of small group dynamics. Jesus summed up these as the two most important commands. The purpose of this project was three-fold: to explore how people understood what it means to practice loving God and others to determine the impact this has on their spiritual growth; to determine if Christians demonstrate a holistic approach to loving God, or instead have a primary or choose a preferred method to loving and drawing close to God; and last, to work with individuals and small groups of Christians to recognize the import and centrality of the commands. The project occurred in seven stages. A comparison of the information gathered from the focus-group research to the post-training survey indicated the success of the project. Nonetheless a finding emerged revealing that in general participants did not understand and pr  actice loving God and loving others in the manner prescribed and exhorted throughout Scripture. A congregation in Tarapoto, Peru, participated in a series of six lyric writing workshops using an action research model. Group poetry writing methods based on the work of Kenneth Koch were implemented. Elements of the lament psalms were incorporated into each workshop song. Implementation was the main qualitative research method used. The main objective was to implement five different components into the small group ministry with the hope that group participation would increase to a percentage which reflected Central Church's stated vision that small groups were an important way to connect. The report began with a survey of psychological, sociological, and theological insights into male depression.  The support group consisted of eight weekly sessions with homework assignments drawn from CR material, Hart's book, and daily devotionals. The key conclusion of the project was that depressed Christian men can be aided significantly through an integrated, Bible-based support group. Each leadership position should have a description that states its purpose, values, key responsibilities and the necessary skills to execute the responsibilities. With this ministry description leaders can assess potential leaders for the position, provide training for executing the responsibilities and ensure coaching for a productive transition. This project begins with a summary of the challenges faced by megachurch pastors. A chapter of biblical and historical considerations provides background material on the value of team ministry. Case studies reveal lessons learned through interviews, surveys, and onsite visits at churches that have incorporated a team-preaching model. This project introduces small group ministry to Grace Baptist Church of Cedarville, Ohio through the development and evaluation of a pilot program. This congregation's conservative roots, circumstances, and culture required strong biblical and theological evidence of the validity of small groups. A small group model was adopted and tested in a thirteen week pilot program. The model aimed to strengthen biblical community and spiritual formation.
