This qualitative study reviewed the strategy theologically, missiologically and practically. The field research involved the tracking and interviewing of twenty planters over three months of training. The most significant findings included that the church planters report that getting together with other church planters and having interaction in class is the single most helpful factor in their training. Examples abound in the Old Testament where God's people and messengers are exhorted to declare tot he nations with joyful song and testimony what the Lord God Almighty has done. In the New Testament, the angels who brought the Good News to the shepherds, the Lord Jesus Christ himself and the apostles furnish practical illustrations of joyful exuberance in proclaiming the gospel. But there seems to be a dearth of recipients and custodians of the Good News who are eager to go out and share the gospel with joyful passion powered by the joy of the Lord. This project embarked on recruiting and motivationally training believers from churches in USA to become confident and joyful participant sharers of the Good News. The methodology presented in this project is a combination of the following six components.  The director of Church of God World Missions has vast practical experience at various levels of leadership.  His desire is for a practical approach that has a large portion of training time taking place in an overseas or foreign context.  The next area of focus concentrates on strategic leadership meetings. While much time has been spent consulting with Church of God World Missions, other key departments have been consulted within our denomination as well. The third area of impact on the methodology of this project is the literature review.  Various sources have been used including lecture notes, books, and dissertations on holistic discipleship.  In addition, the literature review gathers specific information for the missionary training manual that is not a part of this dissertation project.  Another major factor that influences this project is my past ten years of experience in leading a discipleship training program.  These years of experience play a crucial role in shaping the discipleship component of the missionary training paradigm.  The fifth major area that has shaped this project is the courses and faculty I have been exposed to at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Several professors taught modules that have helped establish a holistic discipleship structure to minister to the whole person.  The final component is the data that was received from current Church of God missionaries that completed the design questionnaire. Dedicated missionary training communities utilize informal education to achieve these desired outcomes.  This project identified the predominant character qualities and attitudes found in various bodies of literature on missionary competency profiling.  Further, it demonstrates that informal and nonformal education are the most suitable methods for effective character and attitude formation in pre-field missionaries.  A correlation was presented based on the New Testament writings, demonstrating that Jesus Christ targeted character qualities and attitudes, and addressed these by using informal educational methods, and established an intentional community as the basis of addressing these training needs. The author evaluated the development of these traits in seven Brazilian seminarians during a four-week missions internship in Paraguay.  Self-reporting, participant observation, national informant observations, and pre- and post-internship testing involving the Intercultural Competency Scale were used for evaluation. Two control groups were also utilized.  Few students evidenced growth in intercultural sensitivity.  The internship apparently deflated the cultural expectations of others.  Considerable growth was noted in adventuresomeness, though not verbal boldness.
