A threefold method, of personal interviews coupled with a survey, a time-line exercise, and interviews coupled with questionnaires, was used.  Printed church literature was consulted too. As an element of the persuasive milieu of Scripture, the charge to preach includes style.  Both testaments manifest God's love of linguistic art for its theology.  Current homiletics textbooks, however, cannot hope to explain all theories of style and include performance pedagogy.  This project, therefore, developed lectures on style's verbal and nonverbal factors for preaching, taught the lessons, and evaluated the learning outcomes to identify course improvements. The purpose of this project was to discover factors that contribute to the resiliency and retention of missionaries who have gone through traumatic events in their missionary career in Africa and yet continue to serve there.  This qualitative study used narrative methodology and involved 35 interviews with missionaries who had experienced various traumas.  Four factors that respondents brought into their trauma event were: a strong personal conviction, a preparedness from birth, words from God, and sturdy relationships.  Four factors which emerged from the trauma were experiencing the keeper side of God, hearing authoritative leadership voices, quickly finding new ministry foci, and benefiting from functional networks. The author examines the biblical text for clues, and looks closely at what groups who specialize in evangelism and discipleship use in their endeavors. The majority of groups, such as Campus Crusade for Christ, the Navigators, Billy Graham's organizations, and others, use follow-up material that focuses primarily on the spiritual disciplines of prayer, Bible study, church involvement, and stewardship. Yet the Scriptures indicate that the place to begin is with the foundational teachings referred to in Hebrews 6:1-2. Those basic teachings include--the doctrine of Christ, repentance from dead works, faith toward God, baptism, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. It is the conviction of the author that to achieve biblical results we should be following the biblical guidelines when working with new believers. That idea is both developed and supported in this paper. The author examines four 'turning points' (the First and Second Great Awakenings, the Businessmen's Revival of 1857-58 and mid-twentieth century evangelism) in American religious history and discusses the relationship between spiritual revival and cultural engagement during periods of awakening. The results revealed that seminar attendees have a better understanding of the church's mission and were more than twice as active in ministry compared to those who had not attended the
