Using a combined approach that incorporated what was learned from a survey of pastors and what was learned from personal study, a three-month reading program was prepared. Four expository sermons were preached, utilizing what was gleaned from the reading program. Surveys were administered to six members of the researcher's parish after each preached sermon. After reviewing the history of Jewish missions in the United States, the lives of King David and the Apostle Paul were studies. Relevant secular literature on value-based leadership was then reviewed. The Delphi method was used to poll twenty of the leaders in the field of Jewish evangelism and then five in-depth interviews. What emerged were the top five characteristics needed: personal Godliness (including a strong prayer life), a conviction that Jewish people need Jesus in order to be saved (a passion for the lost and a conviction that you are called to Jewish evangelism), integrity (including honesty, humility, and courage), faithfulness (perseverance), and ability to be a hard worker."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719140185866240,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:45:20.739Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:32:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:52:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"85b8d2b7-d71e-4439-8ac8-55a68945f91f","accessControl_ssim":["eccfb035-2572-427f-91b8-3d4c611a4943"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Initiating a training process for equipping deacons at Bethel Baptist Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:32:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:04:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["01ceed36-ab77-4958-a542-a5880986417f"],"hasLease_ssim":["50908c91-5f87-492a-ad2b-68fa0c16b08d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["James R Moore"],"year_tesim":["2010"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James Bud Johnston"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","Deacons"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Doctor of Ministry project was designed to develop and teach a first stage training process which would equip existing and potential deacons to serve as competent leaders at Bethel Baptist Church. Examples abound in the Old Testament where God's people and messengers are exhorted to declare tot he nations with joyful song and testimony what the Lord God Almighty has done. In the New Testament, the angels who brought the Good News to the shepherds, the Lord Jesus Christ himself and the apostles furnish practical illustrations of joyful exuberance in proclaiming the gospel. But there seems to be a dearth of recipients and custodians of the Good News who are eager to go out and share the gospel with joyful passion powered by the joy of the Lord. This project embarked on recruiting and motivationally training believers from churches in USA to become confident and joyful participant sharers of the Good News. The methodology deployed in research involved planning and carrying out a mission strip to Uganda, and evidence of joyful motivation was assessed through analyses of responses to questionnaire hand outs from research respondents, as well as observations and doing impromptu interviews with participants during the trip."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity
