Acts","Bible--Criticism, interpretation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Sacred Scripture consists of human language expressed in a historical-literary context.  To accurately draw out an author's intended meaning in scripture, one must apply a responsible interpretive process to its language and literary forms.  This major project discusses the means to accurately interpret and apply the New Testament book of Acts.  The author sets forth a responsible five-step interpretive process to convert a time-bound precept to a contextualized timeless principle.  This process is applied to ten successive portions of Acts 1-12. Three aspects of interpreting the Bible are particularly emphasized.  The importance of gaining a bird's eye perspective of the Bible, laying out the hermeneutical principles for interpreting different genres of biblical literature, and encouraging lay leaders in the practices of spiritual disciplines.  This course was taught to over one hundred participants at Christ Community Church (St. Charles, Illinois) in the spring of 2002. The author investigates the social context where the pastors study, specifies the theoretical bases of the course, and develops ten missionary lessons on Matthew. It focuses primarily on practical techniques which laypersons can use to interpret the Bible.  This process entails a cycle of four readings and seven interpretive questions.  Primary emphasis is placed on using the guidelines from normal human language and the original author's intent to approach the text of Scripture.  The practical analytical procedures allow laypersons to do individual Bible study with the incremented incorporation of research tools and study aids.
