The study uses the Old Testament to research terms as they related to spirit beings, their power, the practices associated with them, and the locating of key texts dealing with this topic. All of this material was used as the basis to define a biblical view of the spirit world. It seeks to answer the question: 'Looking at the hostage crisis, what lessons are there to be learned by the mission in managing such a crisis?' It begins by outlining the theological basis for the study. The project then contrasts western and non-western worldviews, detailing some of the assumptions underlying each one, and comparing western worldview constructs with the mysticism of Java. Following an extended case study there are nineteen interactive reflective studies on specific themes related to spiritual conflicts. Missionaries and missionary candidates evaluated the interactive studies.
