Questions were grouped according to personal information (sex, age, marriage status, family, income, temperament), education information (schools attended and feelings about their value, along with suggestions of what was good and what needed improvement), and church information (about one's current ministry).  Two conclusions are that pastors want seminaries to continue to offer the classics (Bible, theology), but to add more practical training. The purpose of this project was to see if it could be possible to rebuild the infra-structure of this old inner-city church by establishing a network of relational groups.  Key elements are: the pastoral role, the link to the church, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the opening up to non-believers. The geography, history, and ethnic makeup of South Africa, where Murray served, is reviewed.  His early life, education in Scotland and Holland, and return to South Africa are highlighted. Murray's four pastorates with the Dutch Reformed Church provide examples of his missionary fervor, particularly his establishment in Wellington of the Missionary Training Institute and Huguenot College. In addition to a premeditation of the steps to be taken during the initial year of the church there is a chronicling of the implementation of this strategy integrated with a post-evaluation.  The available resources and the role of the sponsoring churches are discussed in the early chapters. Getting to know the target audience, allowing them exposure to the developing church, and effectively communicating the gospel are subsequent key areas covered.  Securing a response to Christ that grew out of understanding, and which took into account culturally appropriate patterns of decision-making was a major concern of the church planters. It is shown that missionary zeal would not be undermined if we hold that God could accept these, and that stronger motivation can come from the love of Christ and the command of Christ. The author's thesis is that mishandling of the component parts of TEE leads to weakness and breakdown, whereas caring administrators lead successful programs.  Using 78 TEE programs from 22 countries in Africa as sources, the author describes how the extension model is working.  He compares and analyzes the programs according to aims, administration, component parts, problems, innovations, the program's own self-evaluation and external relations with the church.  As to methodology, the author employs the results of two questionnaires, personal interviews with administrators, tutors and students, and five case studies. Results indicate that 64 per cent of TEE administrators felt that the future prospects of extension are bright. Statistical data indicates that a modest but statistically significant correlation exists between tutor training and effective class interaction.
