The author did research to find relevant seminar topics.  Six seminars were then developed by the author and presented over a period of one semester to fifteen students.  After four months, the author evaluated the effects of the seminars on the students' lives and ministries. Three seminars were found to be helpful and the rural students had been effectively trained for city ministry. A preliminary teaching resource manual was produced based upon information from these questionnaires, wide reading in the areas of reconciliation, racism, and related topics, and other models of reconciliation education approaches in current use. This preliminary resource manual was subjected to a focus group of Nazarene leaders and others. Three out of four respondents from a broad spectrum of missionary roles and boards would train again at Houghton and credit the hard work, discipline, spiritual growth, examples of faculty and academic input (especially Bible courses) in college days with their development. This has been accomplished by presenting an overview of the historical development of the superintendent's role. Various surveys of pastors and laypersons in the EFCA have also been conducted.  Specific recommendations are then made.  These are viewed from the perspective of various departments of the Free Church nationally, including its seminary.  A second category involves recommended changes regarding the superintendent's role as it impacts the local church.
