Stagnation and the lack of growth were problematic. If spiritual formation of the individual and church community could put back what was missing in the lives of broken individuals in the church community, then this could have an impact on church growth. The researcher collected qualitative data through a spiritual assessment profile, surveys, interviews, and spiritual discipline training. Data results suggested positive changes in pastoral and participants attitudes. A phenomenological framework informed by narrative inquiry methodology suggests that activism among African American females in an urban congregation is more likely to take place where the participants develop their capacity by first dealing with their own personal issues as a part of their civic skill development. To empower Christian educators, they participated in ten training sessions learning biblical, theological, and historical information, as well as teaching strategies and learning styles. Christian education is the vehicle used to assist in the faith formation of students as they move towards social action. Methodology used for qualitative data collection included a pre-survey, need assessment, and post-survey.
