The problem addressed the tendency of people to observe rather than to participate in ministry due to their lack of knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts. It developed an equipping ministry launch that consisted of a twelve-week study of spiritual gifts using a preaching series, Sunday school lessons and small-group studies. The launch helped attendees gain knowledge and understanding of spiritual gifts and of their use in ministry. The methodology included a survey, preaching and teaching about hospitality, group participant journals and field notes. The findings revealed an increased understanding of the importance and complexity of the practice of hospitality in the church. These spiritual practices were addressed through a strategically planned ten-session program consisting of meditations, lectures, and workshops. A pre and post assessment was developed to measure attitudinal changes in areas specified. The model for ministy consisted of gifts assessments, questionnaires and interviews, and a series of workshops and accompanying sermons.  The project revealed the elders were more motivated by the need to accomplish an assignment than by their area of giftedness. Results indicated that, while leaders respected the emphasis on gifts, they needed a respite.
