The project conducts a spiritual audit of the congregation, presents a series of sermons addressed to issues in the transition, and administers a survey questionnaire to a random sample of members to determine the effect of preaching and other factors in the transition process. This author used surveys and individual interviews with A. M. E. pastors to assess the reassignment process.  The findings indicated that the absence of communication before reassignment had the emotional effect associated with loss, diminishing Itinerant Elder authority in ministry and their role as a partner in the vision for the church.
