The methodology used to achieve this was a pretest survey, a four-sermon series, and a post test survey.  The findings of this project confirmed that there is a definite relationship between expository preaching and spiritual growth. The context of this study is First United Methodist Church, Boerne, Texas.  The intervention used to achieve this goal is 'Igniting Ministry,' the denomination's national media campaign.  The findings were that this test congregation far exceeded national studies and local surveys, focus groups, and interviews. Participants in study were divided into four focus groups, attending nine sessions of spiritual direction using curriculum in A spiritual formation workbook by James Bryan Smith.  A self-designes questionnaire was used to measure effects of spiritual formation in the congregation. A small group participated in a retreat where they learned spiritual practices, accountability, and support.  Measurements included journal entries, surveys, and observations.  When compared to a control group, those who participated scored significantly higher in all areas of spiritual growth (both individually and corporately). It was a six week study that had discussion and journaling as part of the process.  Following the study observations were done by the context committee, and interviews of the study participants were done. The study was implemented at Bashor Children's Home in Goshen, Indiana.  Four participants were selected for case studies that involve interviews and interventions designed to meet the specific spiritual needs of each individual youth.  The research was based on pre- and post-tests, surveys, and observations to measure the effects of this ministry technique. Four small groups came together for six weekly meetings to share their prayers and meditations with one another at Zion United Methodist Church, Kokomo, Indiana.  Many shared a greater desire to serve Christ.  These sharing times revealed that people encounter the Lord when they spend time praying and meditating. This project developed the criteria for selecting visual art that expressed a sense of the holy.  The research question was: 'Will visual art that expresses a sense of the holy increase viewers' attentiveness and responsiveness to God's presense?'  Criteria were developed by interviewing art experts.  These criteria were used to select images for a sample exhibit.  Four focus groups viewed the exhibit and completed a questionnaire. The model design consisted of three sermons with pre- and post-test surveys. This action research model involved the researcher's efforts to identify changes in attitudes of participants toward developing an authentic identity.  The model shows that the participants sometime judge themselves according to the perceptions and standards of whites.
