This project was accomplished by the author with the help of his congregation by developing a statement of mission and purpose.  Goals for continuing ministries developed from that statement then led to the necessity of expanding the facilities and, in this case, completely relocating them. The new facilities were consecrated in June, 1981, with over half of the total cost paid. Groups for lay ministry were projected in the areas of evangelism, pastoral care (elders), and church hospitality (deacons, deaconesses, ushers).  Rigorous training was planned and executed for each of these groups, their function was supervised, and its impact monitored through a period of seven months.  The training encountered a reluctance in the hospitality group.  The implementation experienced a hesitancy in the pastoral care group. Disease frequently occurs when a patient's lifestyle is not in harmony with his/her attitudes, values and beliefs.  This study explores ways in which physicians and clergy can work together to foster wholistic health for patients.  The University of Michigan, Department of Family Practice has employed a full-time pastoral counselor/ethicist to further the cooperation between clergy and physicians.  Through a training program focused on counseling skills, clergy and physicians have developed comfortable working relationships. There is also  presentation of the problems dealt with in the project, along with a description of the project and the process, and a theological statement from the participant.  Also included are the evaluation instruments employed, and the results obtained from the same.  The findings and implications present the writer's interpretation of the results of the project, along with suggestions for improving the content of the project the next time around. This material was taught and evaluated for future use within the congregation.  The viability of the program is discussed from the viewpoint of both author and congregation. He tested the hypothesis in a support group of nine members from a local church.  The author and support group developed a profile of behavior changes desired from devotions and designed and tested devotional models to effect the changes.  The program demonstrated a positive correlation between praying for others and increased compassion toward them, and discovered that primary group reference is probably a more significant behavior-determining factor than
