Mount Aery Baptist Church, a 77-year old, 1400 disciple African-American congregation, had recently experienced rapid growth.  As a result, its leadership (Pastor and Officers) was often unable to adequately address the numerous congregational needs in a timely manner.  Also, of great concern within the congregation was the qualifications needed to address those needs. A sample of congregants was recruited and afforded a treatment consisting of eight seminars, a series of topical sermons and other support. Through the administration of a pre-test and post-test the project measures the discipleship growth of the experimental group as compared with two control groups within the context and three control groups external to the context. An observable shift from worship to entertainment in the music ministry of the church led to the implementation of a series of workshops and seminars targeting a test group of musicians and singers, who were then educated in the history and development of the African-American Spiritual and Gospel music worship traditions.  The effect was to empower the group members to apprehend their responsibility as ministers and to distinguish between religious entertainment and authentic worship as it manifests in the Edgewood Baptist Church in Old Dayton View in Dayton, Ohio was the location for this program.  The objectives for this project were to empower youth to make responsible choices concerning their future.  An eight-week session curriculum was developed on preventative education to promote healthy lifestyle choices.  The quantitative method included a pre/post test survey given to a sample population.
