The author will examine the history of the relationship of these communions and what they can say together.  A study of their own guidelines for ecumenical cooperation will examine ways in which they can express a lived, visible unity.  Areas of convergence and divergence will be noted.  A case study of a Lutheran/Catholic ecumenical parish will provide a possible model that could be followed. The project paper studies Mary in the Christian Scriptures and the Catholic and Lutheran traditions and examines the convergences and divergences resulting from this analysis. In doing so, the adult formation dialogue process was developed. This project paper extensively references the 1990 'Common Statement: The One Mediator, The Saints, and Mary,' the outcome of the official United States Lutheran-Catholic dialogue. The effect of ecumenical dialogues and full communion agreements on theological education is analyzed. The model presumes a basic course in preaching offered through the seminary.  Five students preached five times in their pastoral settings, and worked with a group of laity and pastors/supervisors to prepare and to critique their preaching.  The primary finding indicates that the method works well if done correctly. Students can learn preaching skills effectively through direct contact with parishioners and supervisors in a real preaching experience.  The lay people benefit also by learning about Scripture, preaching, and the coming Sunday celebration.
