The project was intentional about including other cultures into the worship at Loch Raven. The first phase added a cultural component with a sermon that addressed cultural diversity. The second phase of the intervention used an integrated approach that utilized a theme and cultural diversity throughout the service that connected to a sermon series. The Brothers of Taizé have a model of contemplative service which gives space for this by using simple songs, scripture and silence.  The author studied congregations who were already using the Taizé model to see the long-term effects on each congregation.  The author then assisted three congregations in the Washington, D.C. area to create monthly worship services using this model for the 2012-2013 academic year. The process for this study included three parts: 1) a survey to determine the congregation's knowledge and attitudes toward personal testimonies, 2) a twelve-week period where personal testimonies were included in the Sunday morning worship services, and 3) a survey following the twelve-week period to determine how knowledge and attitudes may have changed.  Attendance records were also studied.  Attendance records may indicate growth. When a group of laypersons participated in an educational project on worship, the group developed an increased understanding of the meaning, purpose, and practice of worship. They learned tools necessary to develop creative liturgies, and used these tools to participate with clergy and staff in planning and carrying out liturgy for corporate worship. For six consecutive Sundays at the Bolling Air Force Base Chapel Center, the usual amount of lay leadership was significantly increased by advanced preparation and enlisting volunteers from the congregation. Surveys taken before and after the experimental Sundays indicated the congregation liked the additional lay leadership, but not more than about ten minutes total; any more would make the service too long.
