Working with terminal patients, the author created exploration sheets to go with each spiritual practice to guide the conversations between the patient and the chaplain in a hospice and palliative care setting. The author argues that in order for nurses to deliver comprehensive, holistic care of persons with cancer, nurse educators must modify their curricula and clinical training programs.  She urges educators to include a historical perspective of who nurses have been throughout the history of the Christian church, encourage spiritual self-exploration and training in their students, and reclaim the work of the forerunner of spiritual care in nursing, Florence Nightingale.
