The instructor, using ethnographic methodology combined with Heifetz's reflection process of observation, interpretation, and intervention, explored the interns' narrative findings concerning their ability to identify leadership challenges. The conventional wisdom that students would be limited in their ability to use Heifetz and Linsky's leadership characteristic due to lack of ministerial experience proofed unfounded. Responding to internal and external review data, this project participated in overall program changes to the Religion/Christian Ministries program at WPC. Focus was given to the sophomore level internship courses to create an observation level experience designed to engage the Northwest culture. The author researched models of contextual theology in preparation for student experiences. Ultimately the project led to a successful grant proposal to the M. J.
