In it, adolescence was explored as a unique and necessary developmental style which must occasion some conflict, hopefully healthy, between parent and child.  However, too often adolescence becomes more traumatic than necessary unless steps are taken to prepare for it. 'Tools' for evaluating that premise included: critical reviews by participants and observers, certain elements of black theology, and a Christian transformist's view of culture. The primary concern of the research was to ascertain current levels of moral development and to determine if the curricula in the three schools studied was effective in meeting the moral developmental needs of students.  Data was obtained from the results of the Kohlberg Moral Development Test, Form A. The results of this thesis shed light on the effectiveness of ethical teaching within the school systems studied.
